Singapore Flyer - The Birth of an Iconic Landmark

Singapore (PRWEB) March 25, 2006

The official ground breaking ceremony for the Singapore Flyer took place this afternoon amidst much celebration and anticipation. Launched by Guest-of-Honour Mr Mah Bow Tan, Minister for National Development, the ground breaking ceremony was attended by approximately 150 key guests from the tourism and media industry, as well as key government agencies and project partners. Leaders from seven religious groups presided over the blessing ceremony at the Marina Bay site.

Mr Mah Bow Tan, Minister for National Development, said The Singapore Flyer will be a distinctive icon along the Marina Bay. Besides transforming our cityscape, I hope the Singapore Flyer will also change the Singapore experience for our visitors.

Mr Peter Purcell, Managing Director of Singapore Flyer Pte Ltd said, Todays ground breaking ceremony marks the birth of an astonishing landmark. The Singapore Flyer will undoubtedly be one of Asias most distinctive visitor attractions and will be Singapores own recognisable icon in the minds of tourists, much like how the Eiffel Tower and London Eye have come to symbolise France and England.

By using a world-renowned architectural consortium of Kisho Kurokawa Architects & Associates of Japan and Singapores DP Architects, together with other internationally recognised consultants and a Mitsubishi/Takenaka Consortium as our builders, we have set the stage for the Singapore Flyer to become one of Asias most remarkable architectural and engineering feats, he added.

When it is completed in 2008, the Singapore Flyer will be one of the worlds largest man-made moving land objects at a height of 178 metres equivalent to a 45-story building. It will comprise a giant observation wheel 150-metres in diameter sitting astride a 20-metre high, three storey terminal building.

Once aboard, passengers will be enthralled by sweeping, epic views from the historic Singapore River and modern skyline, to the grand vista of ships on the horizon, and on a clear day, right out to Malaysia and Indonesia. From each of the 28 air-conditioned, UV-protected capsules, visitors can enjoy the fascinating sensation of flight, while afloat in the sky during the 37-minute ride.

Mr Lim Neo Chian, Deputy Chairman and Chief Executive of the Singapore Tourism Board said, The Singapore Flyer will be a must-experience attraction that will give visitors a whole new perspective to Singapore. Not only will it offer a great view and unbeatable top-of-the world feeling, it will also be an attraction that will feature a whole host of entertainment options.

Visitors to the Singapore Flyer will experience more than just flight a myriad experiences await, limited only by the imagination. Perhaps an art exhibition with the ever-changing landscape as the backdrop, or a quiet, romantic dinner in a private capsule, or even a cosy wedding reception with champagne and strawberries. The Singapore Flyer will provide a unique space for events that will always be refreshing.

Back on the ground, the Singapore Flyer will offer a range of amenities and activities for everyone, including: a central atrium with lush Asian rainforest and water features; Waterfront Retail and Entertainment Centre; an alfresco waterfront dining promenade serving local favourites; a Main Retail Centre housing three-levels of dining and shopping opportunities; and an open-air Greek Theatre concert bowl for live entertainment performances.

Located in Marina Bay – the future downtown of Singapore – the Singapore Flyer will occupy a prime waterfront Central Business District spot. It will benefit from strong, commercially complementary neighbours, being a short walk to over 2500 four and five-star hotel rooms, the Singapore International Convention and Exhibition Centre, the Esplanade Theatres on the Bay, Singapores new performing arts centre and the planned integrated resort.

Singapore (PRWEB) April 26, 2010

Aerospace Supplier eXchange (ASX) 2011, the Premier Aerospace Supplier Event in Asia, will once again deliver a comprehensive showcase of the latest technologies and solutions available in the global marketplace at one platform, to meet the rising demands of both Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and Maintenance Repair and Overhaul (MRO) from Asia and beyond.

ASX, which is jointly organised by the Association of Aerospace Industries (Singapore), or the AAIS, and IIR Exhibitions, is a biennial exhibition and conference that features the 3rd and 4th tier suppliers who service the vibrant Aerospace Industry.

After the resounding success of the inaugural event in 2009, ASX 2011 will be moving to a larger venue at the new state-of-the-art Exhibition and Convention Centre at the Marina Bay Sands from 27-29 April 2011. For its 2nd staging, the show targets to achieve a much larger showcase featuring over 130 exhibiting companies from more than 10 countries around the world.

The events wide range of exhibitors which hail from renowned international companies and brand names from the industry have chosen the ASX as their gateway for entry into lucrative Asian markets. ASX 2011 is expecting participation from key industry players at the international pavilions, namely China, Malaysia, India, Jamaica, United Kingdom and Mexico.

Companies that participated at ASX 2009 were able to fruitfully reach out to their local and regional clients. This year, the Singapore Pavilion is expected to stage an even stronger presence with the return of Chin Yee Engineering, Raycom Aerospace Pte Ltd & Singapore Epson Industrial Pte Ltd, and new companies like Dassault Systemes Singapore Pte Ltd who have already confirmed their exhibition space.

Exhibitors and visitors alike found ASX 2009 to be an excellent sourcing ground and networking platform for the thriving aerospace manufacturing market in this region. We are very pleased with the enthusiastic response as many participants have made plans to be back again for ASX 2011. At IIR Exhibitions, we see immense potential in ASX 2011 and we aim to bring a larger number of international participants for next years event. said Rosalind Ng, Managing Director of IIR Exhibitions.

The recent economic and industry recovery has driven exhibitors to make a strong return to ASX in 2011. According to the latest study by AeroStrategy Limited, the MRO growth in the Asia-Pacific will rise at a CAGR of at least 5.1%. Other statistics show aerospace manufacturing in the region will continue to boom in the coming years. Singapore leads the pack, having experienced up to 13% CAGR in MRO since 1990, and similar double-digit growth in manufacturing in the same period.

It is important for companies to position themselves well in order to capitalise on the upturn, and leveraging on platforms such as the ASX will allow aerospace suppliers to effectively showcase their best to global aerospace buyers. The ASX aims to support this growing base of local aerospace-supporting companies by providing a focused, international business-to-business event that brings relevant trade buyers together for possible business partnerships and networking opportunities, said Dr Aloysius Tay, Chief Executive, AAIS.

Further, it is also important for us to engage foreign suppliers to exhibit at the ASX, so as to enhance our offerings in the region. This diversity will allow Singapore to maintain our reach and our status as the MRO hub of choice in the region, added Dr Tay.

An integral part of the Exhibition, the ASX 2011 high-level conference that will take place on the first 2 days of the exhibition, will give detailed perspectives and valuable information to industry professionals on key topics such as growth in aircraft manufacturing activities in the region, supplier management and policies, R&D and safety in the growing aerospace market, which would focus primarily on the needs of senior managers as well as operations and technical managers and planners.

ASX also sees prominent presence and support from well-regarded industry associations and relevant organisations such as the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore, Agency for Science, Technology and Research, Singapore Economic Development Board, International Enterprise Singapore, Singapore Exhibition & Convention Bureau, SPRING Singapore and the Singapore Tourism Board.

Singapore-based IndoChine Group, announces its continuation to extend its reach overseas with the launch of new venues in New Delhi, and a second venue in Kuala Lumpur next month. On the push for global expansion the Group will also break into the Middle Eastern market with another venue set to open in Dubai early next year.

Although the Group’s biggest advancement will no doubt be their first foray into resort and hotel development with The Reef in Phuket, Thailand due for completion later next year.

Our business module has been very successful, hence our push for global expansion.”

As for opening the second venue in Kuala Lumpur next month, Ma explains, “Being in Kuala Lumpur for the last few years has given us an in-depth knowledge of what KL’s market demands. However, just like any other market, the needs and wants of customers there will change, and being in touch with our customers, the market and industry trends provides us with an advantage in being one step ahead of our competitors.”

Explaining the motivation behind the interest in the Middle East, Ma says, “We have established the IndoChine brand in Asia, and it’s important to note that part of IndoChine’s strategy for success is working with strong partners for our overseas projects. Our priority is to develop IndoChine into an exceptionally global brand. My primary role fronting these projects is to ensure the overall experience is truly IndoChine.”

“The opening of our Dubai venue is still in its infancy stages, although we have secured a premium site at this stage. It’s time to raise the bar for high-quality entertainment and partying in our overseas venues and Dubai will provide our valued guests with a stylish and sophisticated atmosphere where they can enjoy the finer pleasures the East has to offer,” says Ma who has an Indo-Chinese background.

Venturing into the unexplored territory of hotel development for the Group, The Reef in Phuket will be a fully-fledged 140 room resort facing the beachfront of Patong Beach, inspired by the natural modular form of a coral reef.

When asked why Phuket after the devastating Boxing Day tsunami, Ma explains, “Basically it comes down to the potential we saw in the resurgence and rising level of interest in the Phuket area.
