Stem Cell Bio-Medical Company, StemLife Berhad To List on Bursa Malaysia Securities Berhad

KUALA LUMPUR, 28 (PRWEB) September 30, 2006

Malaysias leading bio-medical company in the stem cell industry, StemLife Berhad (StemLife), en-route to list on the MESDAQ Market of Bursa Malaysia Securities Berhad launched its prospectus today and revealed its plans to invest up to RM8.1 million for expansion of the companys branches and existing laboratories as well as the set up of a new third laboratory, as part of its utilisation of proceeds from its Initial Public Offering (IPO).

Headquartered in Kuala Lumpur, StemLife Berhad started operations in January 2002 to offer stem cell banking services and technical expertise on modern and advanced medical treatments for major diseases afflicting Malaysians. Since incorporation, the company has made tremendous headway in this young industry.

StemLifes list of achievements include not only being the first company in Malaysia to offer stem cell banking in both Umbilical Cord Blood Stem Cell (UCBSC) and Peripheral Blood Stem Cell (PBSC), normally referred to as cord blood banking and adult stem cell banking respectively, but also the first company to offer stem cell therapeutic advisory services in the Asia Pacific region. The company deals with enhancing the quality of life with stem cells, hence the companys name, StemLife.

In complementing its stem cell banking services, StemLife also collaborates closely with leading medical specialists and hospitals in the country such as Gleneagles Hospital and Heart, Stroke and Cancer (HSC) centre in Kuala Lumpur to offer leading edge stem cell therapy and consultancy services.

Through its stem cell therapy and banking divisions, the company has not only successfully preserved both UCBSC and PBSC for families and individuals but has also enabled numerous successful transplants for patients with blood related diseases such as lymphoma, diabetic foot ulcers, leukemia and thalassaemia major in Malaysia. They recently played host to the 4th Annual Asia Pacific Cord Blood Bank Consortium Forum of which the company is a founding member.

The opportunities presented by the industry cannot be ignored. This is an immense step forward for StemLife and the IPO, in our view, is a platform that presents us with the opportunity to build our capital and direct these funds towards developing and taking on equally challenging tasks to the next level, said Sharon Low, StemLifes Managing Director.

In light of heightened interest in stem cell research and a growing trend in stem cell banking globally, there exists an incredible amount of untapped business potential not just in Malaysia but around Asia. Stem cell banking in Asia like UCBSCs and PBSCs do not have the negative connotations of embryonic stem cell research which has been banned from federal funding in the United States,. With increased understanding and discoveries of new stem cell applications, the potential for future growth in the healthcare industry is tremendous.

Based on Frost & Sullivans findings, the global stem cell banking market size for 2005 is estimated to be RM7.2 billion and it is projected that the number will triple to RM22.7 billion in 2010, at a compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of 25.8%.

In South East Asia, Malaysias market size contributed a total of RM10.8 million, followed by Thailand with RM0.9 million. In the next five years, the Malaysian stem cell banking market is expected to rise to RM46.5 million at a CAGR of 33.8% based on the Governments estimate of 500,000 babies born every year.

The Government has identified the biotechnology industry as one of the key areas for growth and development. As a measure to promote the industry, the Government had announced in the 2006 Budget that a special fund worth RM100 million would be set-up to promote the industry. We have always been aware of the dynamic environment we operate in. We are not only bound by technological breakthroughs but other external constraints. On this premise, we need to ensure that StemLife has all the necessary means to be on par with up-coming international technological and bio-medical developments while staying in line with the Governments initiatives and directions as well as within legislative guidelines, stresses Sharon Low.

She adds that there is a growing trend in Malaysias healthcare tourism sector whereby in 2005, approximately 12,698 foreigners from all over the world had spent a whopping RM793 million on healthcare services offered in Malaysia. Foreigners from the United States, Europe, India, Indonesia, China, Korea, Japan, Singapore and Maldives all contributed a substantial amount to the earnings recorded for the tourism industry last year.

We are encouraged by the Governments support of the biotechnological industry. At StemLife, we are optimistic that our plans and future strategies, together with the opportunities provided by the IPO will not only propel us to new heights but also enable the company to take stem cell banking and therapeutics to the next level, she concluded.

StemLife hopes to raise RM13.2 million from the Public Issue of 40,000,000 shares of RM0.10 each at an issue price of RM0.33 per share comprising of 10,000,000 shares to eligible directors, employees and customers of StemLife and its subsidiary companies, 8,250,000 to the Malaysian public, and the private placement of 21,750,000 shares to identified investors. The companys enlarged share capital after the IPO will be RM16.5 million.

50% Increase of Russians Rushing to Malaysia

(PRWEB) May 23, 2008

The growth in Russian tourist arrivals has been steady since the beginning of 2008 with 7.8% growth recorded in Jan 08 (compared to Jan 07), 32.6% in Feb 08 (compared to Feb 07) and 50.8% in Mar 08 (compared to Mar 07).

In total over 1.7 million tourists visited the Southeast Asian country in April 2008 and a 0.8% increase for the period Jan – Apr 08 was recorded compared to the same period last year. Overall Singapore remained the biggest tourist generating market for Malaysia with 867,067 Singaporean nationals visiting the country in April 08; the UK came in at 9th place with 31,952 visitors, 24.5% growth compared to April 07.

These increases in arrivals certainly confirm Malaysia’s worldwide appeal as a top tourism destination and is increasing the amount of people purchasing property in Malaysia. The soaring Malaysian property market is fuelled by ongoing economic growth; a naturally-growing population averaging 1.8% long-term; increasing migration from country to city; the growth of the state-sponsored pension fund; expansion of economic activity by nearby Singapore; and the 10-year-old “Malaysia- My Second Home” programme.

Steve Worboys, MD of Malaysia property agent Experience International, comments, “The increase in tourist arrivals both overall and in the Russian sector spells good news for the Malaysian economy.

We are seeing more and more people visiting this beautiful nation on holiday, falling in love with the people, the culture and the investment opportunities available and taking advantage of the Malaysia My Second Home Programme to purchase a property in Malaysia. The coastal region of Sepang in particular is receiving great interest. Here buyers can purchase a 1 bedroom apartment from just

An Inside Look at Medical Tourism in Malaysia - American Reporter to be Given Unprecedented Access

Penang, Malaysia (PRWEB) March 7, 2005

The United States has the dubious distinction of having the highest healthcare costs in the world, by some accounts twice as high as those in other comparable nations. In fact, over the last five years healthcare costs in America have risen an average of $ 2,500 per family.

Following in the footsteps of their European cousins, a growing number of Americans are turning to medical tourism for their surgical procedures. Every year more and more people travel to countries such as Malaysia, Thailand and India, where they can save up to 70% off their surgical procedures. Simple cosmetic surgery costing over $ 8,000 in the United States can be as low as $ 3,000 in other countries, for exactly the same procedures and often with better service and care.

This March, writer and journalist Eric Paul Erickson will depart on an unparalleled journey with two American women who are traveling to Malaysia for surgical procedures. Erickson has been granted unprecedented access to not only document the experiences of these two women, but the inner workings of the country’s medical tourism industry.

Erickson will also be keeping a blog at http://www.medicaltourmalaysia.com which will go live March 11. Updated several times a day, the blog will give readers an even clearer picture of medical tourism in Malaysia, as well as insight into travel, customs and culture in the region including full color pictures. Blog readers will also be able to ask questions which Erickson will answer as part of his entries.

Once thought to only be the choice for those seeking lower cost cosmetic surgery, medical tourism has become the only option for a growing number of those in desperate need of life saving procedures. Recently a 73-year-old British man was told he would have to wait six months for heart bypass surgery covered by the National Health Service or pay $ 36,000 for immediate surgery. He chose neither, instead traveling to India for the procedure at a savings of $ 27,000.

Erickson will uncover the facts about medical tourism and health care in other countries, addressing the issues of safety, proper procedures, travel, accreditation, accommodations and culture. Through his eyes, Americans will be able to make their own decisions as to whether traveling abroad for medical procedures is for them. He will also delve into the growing business of the travel agencies arranging these trips which bring billions of tourism dollars to host countries such as Malaysia.

During his career, Erickson has worked for the Chicago Tribune’s City News Service, the Roswell Daily Record and CNS News. Currently he works as a freelance writer in Chicago where his work appears regularly in the Chicago Tribune, Hollinger newspapers and other area newspapers and magazines, as well as national publications. His articles and photos have continually received national recognition and distribution.

During his adventures Erickson has been given unusual access to many areas, including participation in the Chicago Police Department’s Street Survival course, being given clearance to observe anti-terrorism and explosives training in New Mexico, interviewing secluded Poor Clare nuns and spending Spring Training on the field with the Chicago Cubs in Arizona.

Following Erickson’s return March 24, full-length feature articles and briefs, both with accompanying photos, will be available for publication and all involved parties will be on hand for media interviews. Yellow Pages Malaysia Online Directory Launching Online Version of Halal(e-Halal), Holiday(e-Holiday) & Dining(e-Dining)

(PRWEB) February 18, 2010

TM Info-Media Sdn. Bhd. (TMIM), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) today signed three Memorandum of Collaborations with its partners namely International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), FlyFirefly Sdn. Bhd. (FlyFirely) and FriedChillies Media Sdn. Bhd. (FriedChillies) to publish the online versions of Halal Pages (e-Halal), Malaysia Tourist Pages (e-Holiday) and F&B outlets directory (e-Dining) in its Yellow Pages online directory.

TMIM is collaborating with IIUM for e-Halal; FlyFirefly Sdn. Bhd for e-Holiday and Fried Chillies Media Sdn. Bhd. for e-Dining.

Nasaruddin Mohd. Zaini, Chief Executive Officer of TMIM represented TMIM at the signing ceremony while Professor Dato Sri Dr. Syed Arabi Idid, Rector of IIUM; Angelina Corrina Fernandez, Head of Corporate Communications, FlyFirefly and Mohd Adly Rizal, Chief Executive Officer and Founder of FriedChillies signed the Memorandum of Collaborations on behalf of their respective companies.

At the same event, Y.B. Dato Sri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, Minister of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism also officially launched the three online directories.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Dato Zamzamzairani Mohd. Isa, Group Chief Executive Officer, TM said: Todays event marks yet another achievement by TMIM which goes under the brand name Yellow Pages as it launches three new products as a result of business collaborations with its esteemed partners. In line with the current digital lifestyle, the need for a digital version of directory is very relevant indeed as customers may want to look up for any desired products or retailers contact numbers anytime, anywhere simply through viewing it online or download into their computer.

Commenting on the collaborations, Y.B. Dato Sri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said, Technology has enabled the spread of information in ways never imagined before. As we harness these innovative solutions in positive ways, we would empower the consumers to make better decisions when they decide relevant products or services. Information could be browsed from their home, office or in their car through their notebooks, hand phones or the various gadgets. TMIMs efforts in publishing the printed directories are further augmented with the digital directories. And so, the bridging of the real and the digital books is an initiative unmatched by other publications. Content providers and strategic partners of TMIM could take the opportunity of riding on these publications and spread their messages across a wider range of audience.

The three new products are described as below:

a) e-Halal (http://www.yellowpages.com.my/e-halal)

e-Halal is the virtual version of the printed Halal Pages. In support of the Governments aspiration to make Malaysia as a Halal Hub, having a centralized portal will ensure that manufacturers and suppliers of halal-certified products would be able to utilize the growing strength of electronic marketing to promote their products domestically and internationally.

e-Halal would allow only halal-certified companies to place advertisements of their halal-certified products. Halal consumables product manufacturers such as food and beverages, processed and ready-to-eat products as well as non-food products such as leather, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, toiletries, cosmetics and service providers such as financial institutions offering halal-certified financial services, for example Islamic banking, Islamic Unit Trust, Islamic Capital Markets and Takaful insurance, biotechnology companies and halal outlets are encouraged to use e-Halal as a platform to promote their products and services. This is a global trend because halal products are deemed as clean, safe, beneficial and wholesome.

Under the 5-year Memorandum of Collaboration, TMIM will design, print, distribute, promote and market all advertising space in e-Halal and Halal Pages while IIUM will provide articles for e-Halal.

b) e-Holiday (http://www.yellowpages.com.my/e-holiday)

e-Holiday is the virtual version of the printed Malaysia Tourist Pages (MTP). MTP has been instrumental for the past 16 years in promoting local tourism products, especially to overseas tourists. Basically, this publication is in support of the national tourism agenda. Therefore, digitalizing the MTP into e-Holiday will enable a wider reach of information pertaining to holiday destinations and the various attractions and festivals in Malaysia.

Hotels, Resorts, Travel Bureaus, Airline Companies, Diving Equipment, Restaurants, Car Rental, Gift Shops, Golf Courses, Hospitals (health tourism), universities & colleges (edu-tourism) and other tourism-related industries are encouraged to promote their products and services in e-Holiday.

The e-Holiday directory will be uploaded to FlyFirefly website as FlyFirefly is promoting the tourism industry. TMIM will be conducting a monthly contest via Yellow Pages website to promote holiday packages containing free tickets and accommodation at selected destinations.

Under the one-year collaboration for e-Holiday, TMIM will promote and distribute the directory via its Yellow Pages while Firefly will promote the download of the digital directory in their website.

c) e-Dining (http://www.yellowpages.com.my/e-dining)

e-Dining is a digital directory which lists down food and beverages (F&B) outlets such as restaurants, food franchises, cafes as well as hotels in Malaysia. e-Dining is targeted to all restaurant owners, food franchisers, food manufacturers and hotels to advertise their delicacies.

Malaysia is a haven for food varieties with influence coming from four main culinary of the Malay, Chinese, Indian and European. Given the numerous food choices, e-Dining is the right avenue to search for information on culinary delights in Malaysia.

Under the 2-year partnership, FriedChillies will provide content while TMIM will design, distribute, promote and market all advertising space for e-Dining. Apart from being the content provider, FriedChillies has also been appointed as the reseller to sell the advertising space for e-Dining.

As compared to the printed directories which are printed once a year, e-Halal, e-Holiday and e-Dining are updated on a monthly basis. This will greatly benefit the advertisers as they can have their advertisements available to the masses much faster and reap the benefits of potential sales quickly.

All three directories can be downloaded at http://www.yellowpages.com.my for free and once it has been saved into customers PC or laptop, they can view it anytime.

Agoda Company Celebrates Visit Malaysia Year 2007

Singapore (PRWEB) February 24, 2007

Agoda, an independent online travel company specializing in securing the lowest hotel prices in Asia and around the world, continues its support for tourism in Malaysia by offering great deals on almost 200 properties throughout the country including the largest property in the world. Malaysia was recently voted “Best Value for Money Destination” by readers of Global Traveler magazine.

The First World Hotel surpassed the MGM Grand to become the Guinness Book of World Records largest hotel. The riotously colorful three-star mega-property has more than 6,000 rooms. It is located in Genting Highlands, the resort region often referred to as “Malaysia’s Las Vegas.”

Agoda maintains a strong presence throughout Malaysia’s 11 peninsular states as well as the 2 states located in Malaysian Borneo, with properties ranging from 4-star urban hotels like Kuala Lumpur’s Lanson Place and Swiss Garden Hotel to eco-friendly wilderness resorts like Frangipani Langkawi Resort and Spa.

“After one year of collaboration, we are grateful for the response received from Agoda,” says Kem Siew, Director of Sales for the Swiss Garden Hotel. “The reservation volume increased surprisingly, and we appreciate the results and professional treatment. Agoda’s Yield Control System is simple to use and allows us to make real-time changes to availability and pricing, which can be immediately displayed to customers.”

TeeKay Goh, Director of Sales for Lanson Place, is similarly enthusiastic. “The entire Agoda staff has been effective in promoting our property. They’re a pleasure to work with and extremely diligent and professional.”

Agoda Vice President of Business Development Wilfred Fan says, “Because we’re based in Asia, we’re excited to support Malaysia’s increasing success as an international tourist destination and to celebrate Visit Malaysia Year 2007. Our local contacts and relationships with Malaysian hotels provide travelers with confidence that they’ll find the best hotel coverage and the best available rates.”

In celebration of Visit Malaysia Year 2007, Agoda is offering the following promotion through March 31 at the Swiss Garden Hotel. Guests booking this special promotion will receive complimentary shuttle service to KLCC (Petronas Twin Towers), Chinatown, and Bintang Walk, as well as 20% discounts on treatments at the Samsara Spa, laundry services, and food and beverage purchases at the Garden Terrace Coffee House.
